ATZ is produced by combining approximately 80% YTZP (almost entirely as crystalline tetragonal zirconia) with 20% fine grained alumina. The fracture toughness of the metastable tetragonal phase is enhanced by the introduction of the fine grained alumina into the structure.
ATZ is a composite ceramic consisting of small alumina particles dispersed in a YTZP matrix. It is unique in combining and further improving many of the best properties of the individual materials. ATZ is often specified for the most demanding applications that require high strength, hardness, excellent fracture toughness, and wear and corrosion resistance.
